Slam - Nick Hornby

I have read Slam, a book written by Nick Hornby. Hornby have been awarded with different prices, during his author carrier.

Sam is a sixteen years old boy. His parents is divorced, and he lives with his mother. Sam really loves skateboarding, and are spending a lot of his time at the skate ramp.
He dreams of being like the skating legend, Tony Hawk.


Slam is about a boy named Sam. Sam is sixteen years old and lives with his mother. He loves skatebording. Sam have a big idol, Tony Hawk. One day, Sam joining his mother over to one of her friends places. Here he meet the daughter in the house, Alica. They are both the same age, and quick they start to get interested in each other. After some dating, Alice and Sam becomes a couple. In the start, Sam is afraid of having sex with Alica, because he don't want to be a young parent, like his mother and father.

After some time they start having sex, and one day Sam forgets wearing a condom. He do not feel that anything is wrong with it right then. A couple of weeks later, Alica calls Sam and tell him that her period is late. Now, he gets nervous. How will I tell my parents? How will Alica's parents react? What about school? Are she going to keep the baby?

As the book keep on going, we get to know the answers to all this questions.

I feel that the athor is trying to tell us that we have to be careful during our teenager years. A little thing going wrong, can destroy everything you dreams of. The choices we take now, will get consequences later in our lifes.

I think that the book is very hard read in the start. But as more you are reading, the book gets easier to read. Some places the book is written very weird, so I have to work hard, to find out what the author is trying to tell us.
